Young Shakespeare Company - Hamlet
  • Events

The Young Shakespeare Company have been visiting Gibraltar this week, where they have been performing an exciting and interactive adaption of ‘Hamlet’. Years, 7, 8 and 9 were lucky enough to go and watch it, with some even joining the actors up on stage.

This was not a traditional trip to the theatre for our students. Before the play began the actors came out on stage to teach them a little bit about what goes in to putting on a production such as this one. They demonstrated the different ways in which you can deliver the same line and even asked the students for suggestions on how they thought they should do so. This led to Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother, rapping to her son, in an attempt to get him to listen to her! They also showed them how stage fighting is done to make it look real and convincing without anyone getting hurt.

The audience participation did not stop once the play started either. A couple of students took on roles within the play with everyone else being encouraged to help with sound effects at specific points throughout.

This was such an amazing experience for the students to be able to delve deeper into the world of Shakespeare and the theatre. A massive thank you to The Young Shakespeare Company for putting on such a wonderful adaptation of Hamlet and the John Mackintosh Educational Trust for sponsoring this fantastic educational project.
