The last week of September saw the languages department put on events to celebrate International Week of Languages (IWOL) here at Prior Park. It was an incredibly fun week filled with food, singing and guest speakers. At the beginning of the week, we had a visit from Pavlo Tkachov, who speaks 14 languages, on the importance of learning languages. He was followed by some of our students, who spoke about the importance of learning the Spanish language and the French language.
During the week Year 11s went on a language exchange trip to ‘Instituto Mar De Poniente’. They were lucky enough to spend the day with the students and staff at the Secondary School in La Linea de la Conception, working on their Spanish language and conversation skills.
Then on Thursday, it was the day both staff and students alike had been looking forwards to: The Languages Food Fair. Food was brought it from several different countries and with lots of sweet and savoury dishes on offer there was a lot to choose from.
At the end of the week there was a ‘La Voz’ singing competition during Friday lunchtime. There were songs sung in French, Italian and English, all the students who took part did an amazing job.
IWOL was a great success and so much fun for everyone involved. A massive thank you to the modern Foreign Languages department for all their hard work in organising the week!
